What large animal veterinary services does the Animal Medical & Surgical Center of Coshocton provide?

We provide a broad range of large animal veterinary services, including equine dentistry, lameness evaluation, equine reproduction and breeding management, Coggins testing, emergency care, and general health evaluations for horses. We also see sheep and goats for health management and emergency care.

Do you offer equine emergency care?

Yes. We provide equine emergency care both during clinic hours and through our after-hours on-call system. If your horse is experiencing an acute condition—colic, difficult foaling, severe lameness, a laceration, or respiratory distress—call our main line at (740) 622-0013 immediately. After-hours calls transfer directly to our on-call veterinarian, who can assess the situation and advise on next steps or dispatch care as needed.

What is involved in an equine lameness evaluation?

A lameness evaluation typically begins with a thorough visual assessment of the horse at rest and in motion—at a walk and trot on a straight line and on a circle—to help localize the affected limb or limbs. From there, our veterinarian will perform a hands-on examination of the limbs, joints, hooves, and soft tissue structures, followed by flexion tests and, when indicated, nerve blocks to further isolate the source of pain. Digital radiography may also be used to evaluate bony structures.

Do you perform equine dentistry?

Yes. Equine dental care is an important part of overall horse health and is something we address regularly at the Animal Medical & Surgical Center of Coshocton. Equine dental evaluations and floating—the process of filing sharp points and irregularities on the teeth—help prevent pain, difficulty chewing, weight loss, and behavioral problems associated with dental discomfort.

Can I haul my horse to your clinic, or do you only do farm calls?

We offer farm calls and haul-in services alike. Horses and large animals can be hauled into our clinic at 23921 Airport Rd in Coshocton for many types of evaluations and procedures. We also provide ambulatory farm call services throughout Coshocton County, Holmes County, and parts of Tuscarawas County for clients who prefer on-site care or whose animals cannot be transported. Call our team to discuss which option is the best fit for your situation.

Do you provide Coggins testing for horses?

Yes. We perform Coggins testing—the blood test required to detect equine infectious anemia—for horses at our Coshocton clinic. Results are processed and delivered digitally through Global Vet Link, making it easy for clients to access their horse's health certificates and travel documents anytime. If you need a Coggins test for travel, competition, or sale, contact us to schedule an appointment.

What areas do you serve for large animal farm calls?

Our ambulatory large animal services cover Coshocton County, Holmes County, and parts of Tuscarawas County. If you're located in or near Millersburg, Baltic, Warsaw, Fresno, West Lafayette, or surrounding communities, we can likely accommodate a farm call. Contact our clinic to confirm availability for your specific location and to schedule a visit.
